Key dates for Wolverhampton landlords
- Now: check each property’s gas safety record, EICR and EPC are in date.
- By 17 November 2026: book any check that’s due, before local engineers get busy.
- 15 December 2026: the West Midlands window opens.
- 14 March 2027: the deadline for Wolverhampton properties.
Your deadline follows where the property is, not where you live. See the full West Midlands dates and areas, or every region if you let elsewhere too.
Where City of Wolverhampton Council comes in
You register on the government’s national “Register your rental property” service, not with the council. City of Wolverhampton Council is the local housing authority for Wolverhampton, so after 14 March 2027 it’s the body that can act against landlords who haven’t registered: a civil penalty of up to £7,000, and up to £40,000 for false information or continued breaches. See what happens if you don’t register.
Licensing in Wolverhampton is separate
The register doesn’t replace council licensing. If your Wolverhampton property is a house in multiple occupation, or is in an area with selective licensing, you need the licence as well as the registration. Check with City of Wolverhampton Council which schemes apply to your address.
What you’ll need
A current gas safety record (where there’s gas), a valid EICR and the EPC, plus your details and the property and tenancy details. The full list is in landlord register documents, and the fee is explained in landlord register cost.
